The Life and Times of a Monkey on a Mission
Motorcycle Mishaps or Homecoming Hindrances
The long drive home is never as exciting as the initial drive to your destination, or at least I thought. Albeit a sleepy adventure from my various vodka induced Minneapolis musings, I was ready to take on the road and head out to visit Chicago. The road however had a different plan for me that lead me away from my initial destination only to return a day later on the back of a tow truck. As I ...
Twin City Travels
While exploring Iowa City was exciting in a drunken stupor kind of way that only a college town can provide, I wanted to continue my travels the problem was after Iowa my plans ran out. This was that wing it point where I figured I'd stumble upon or just ride out and find my way along somewhere. I found myself going back and forth from Denver to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul but unsu...
Field of Opportunities?
I found my way up to Iowa City, well okay actually I was staying in Coralville but whenever we ventured out to enjoy the town Iowa City was where it happened. I got to explore the university, help a friend move through bribes of beer and wine and enjoy a few visits to the Ped Mall which is not your ordinary mall. Who knew that after traveling through miles of corn you could stumble onto something ...
No Monkeying Around
While road trips are not an uncommon experience few have the privilege to enjoy the journey atop a motorcycle. The differences are subtle yet vast greatly at the same time. Completely exposed to the elements with no distractions I kind of picture myself as a modern cowmonkey (Not sure if cowboy would apply and cowmonkey sounds like a weird genetics experiment gone wrong but you get the point)....
Jasper the Friendly City
After my exciting wet ride I finally made it to Jasper, Indiana. Now I know what you are thinking, why of all places did I pick this one? Well my fur less friend, I had the chance to visit a friend I haven't seen in years. And while the location was in the middle of nowhere, the chance to visit friends is always worth the trip. What is there to do in Jasper? You ask. Well, not too much to ...

“An American monkey, after getting drunk on brandy, would never touch it again, and thus is much wiser than most men.”
Charles Darwin

It seems that without an ‘About Me’ section people can’t seem to figure out who you are or what the site is about, almost giving you authority to write about whatever topic you post. This coincides with the fact that I wrote a post stating why an ‘About Me’ section fails in most cases and especially in travel blogs. Although, is this really a travel blog, and truth be told this just says ‘About’ I never specified what it was that I was ‘abouting.’ Either way, I figured since you clicked on the link to this page I should at least give you something…

Reflections

About Me: Monkey is as monkey does, I think someone famous said that once. I’m a traveling monkey on a mission to figure out what makes you humans tick. I like to fling poo, drink, travel and other things that I can’t think of right now or just don’t merit mentioning here. I’m kind of random, but hey you’re the one reading a monkey’s blog; silly human.

The base of my desire to travel came one semi-sober night in Rio de Janeiro with the idea to create a Bucket List to keep my adventures going. I started to notice that I’d have to become a mini globe trotter in order to accomplish even half of my goals, which wasn’t a bad idea. A few failed attempts to land a job teaching in Japan opened a chance for me to work at a school and earn degree for free while I’m here.  That’s where I stand now, but tomorrow is a different day with new unexplored opportunities.

About The Site: It’s a blog, I can confirm that much. The rest is just random things flung that may or may not circle around the topic of travel. I’m no travel expert but I like doing it and I’m working on becoming a location independent traveling nomadic [insert new hip travel term here] in the future. My goal is that by 2012 I will have earned my Masters of Education in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) degree and move outside the US to find a job that will allow me to continue paying off my debt and fund future travels.  Yeah that’s a long time down the road but in reality time flies, and since I’m no Wizard of Oz flying monkey I just have to go with the flow. So until then I will plot and plan round the world trips somewhere off into the not so distant future while inserting mini excursions to keep me sane.

Why Create the Site Now, What’s That About: Well, this is my motivation. I figured that as long as I’m typing away and investing time and money into a travel site that I will continue to travel. I’m not saying that without this site I wouldn’t be traveling, I just fear I would never become a traveler but more of a vacationer. Plus for you non blogging nerds, the behind the scenes aspect of creating, maintaining and marketing a blog are insane and require a lot of time. Let’s face it when I’m traveling I don’t want to be spending hours on end researching what the hell SEO means . No damn it, I’ll be hanging out on beaches throwing back drinks and snapping photos exploring what it means to be furry in a speedo, too busy for minor details like web development. (That’s right minor details not what’s in my furry speedo, not that it’s minor or mini or…..dang it!)

I’m throwing my stone in the pond; the ripples that follow cannot be controlled and haven’t yet been determined.

*It may be more flinging than throwing and the stone may actually be poo and not a stone, but that’s irrelevant.

  • Dude, you realize that monkeys are fast and vicious? I like you already!
  • If I'm going fast it's because I'm on a plane and I prefer my viciousness to be delivered in a comical satire form, or flinging things. Either way glad you like me/the site, now I'm off to explore yours.

It would be rather funny to hear the foe paws you commit in other countries because you didn't know their culture. It is funny hearing common tourist mistakes.

    Monkeys are awesome

Make a list of every beer you have drank! That would be a cool page, then your opinion on how the beer tastes.

    I can dig this site
  • I like your style, drinks with a rating scale and social four paws (faux pas) - the don't do's to avoid becoming a social piranha (pariah)

Just checkin out your stuff here. Good deal. Support to the fullest!
