I know it is a day late but I have been having some tricky problems with uploading vidoes. Yet, fear not my furless friends here is the video that I took from Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro.
The beaches lined up with people, as it grew nearer to midnight it became more and more crowded. Off in the distance we heard music coming from the stages nearby. The crowd gathered closer and closer to the shore, estimates of over 2 million people seemed like a low projection as midnight grew near. Most of the crowd wore white to welcome in the new year, flowers were closely held in the hands of individuals ready to toss them into the ocean, some went as far to make small boats with candles to sail away.
Once midnight stroke 10 barges began shooting off fireworks in an impressive display, and for a moment 2 million people fell silent to watch the show. As the end drew near, we drew closer to the ocean to jump in and wash ourselves of the old and to welcome the new.
I’d like to say that we stayed all night partying the night away, but we followed many of the families back to the metro station to find ourself home. Either way it was a New Year’s like no other and one that I won’t be quick to forget.
