This past weekend I took advantage of one of my own tips, and found a cheap flight to Newark, NJ to visit my sister and brother-in-law and their adorable son, whom I met for the first time. While there we were able to do some touristy things. To be honest I only wanted to go to NJ so that my wife could finally meet her nephew and didn’t care if I had the opportunity to see NYC, my sister-in-law had other plans for us and so the sight seeing began.
Times Square
It is busy and crowded, with a lot of flashing lights.
Rockefeller Center
We also strolled down 5th Aveneue nearby but there wasn’t much to snap photos of, other than the outside of shops whose items I could never afford.
Statue of Liberty
It was really neat riding around and seeing her up close, plus I got to try out my long range lens for the first time.
Ellis Island
The first floor can be daunting with all the people busseling through. Once you get your headphones head up to the second floor where you can go through a slower, less crowded pace.
To be honest I had a great time, especially because I’m a history nerd and loved going through Ellis Island, the inside tour of the Statue of Liberty was closed to the public at the time but in total for a ferry ride that costs $17.50 it was well worth it.
