“A West Coast style IPA full of citrus-like and tropical fruit like hop flavor and aroma with an assertive yet smooth bitter finish….malt, take a back seat please.“
This beer hales from Strongsville, OH. Now I don’t really know much about Strongsville but I’m sure I’ve driven through there a few times seeing that it is only 40 minutes from my hometown. Plus it really sounds familiar. All in all that kind of gets me excited to see a craft beer close to home.
This beer has a nice strong scent that comes through of hops with a bit of fruits and citrus. I can already tell that they weren’t lying with the description.
I was not disappointed, the taste matches the scent, and let me tell you WOW. It has the hops you would expect from an IPA but not so much that it bites your face off. Sure you will find a bit of pine in an IPA quite often but I don’t want to feel like I’m chewing on one.
The taste is smooth, leaving a hoppy bitter finish. I can’t pick out the initial flavoring but it is there with some kind of citrus fruit. The mouth feel is light, which would go well with the fruit flavoring, even though the beer flavoring is strong. Strong, but not overwhelming.
They have “taming the savage hop” written on it and by Curious George I think they’ve done it. It has a good IPA taste but not as strong and abrasive when compared to other IPA‘s. Now I wouldn’t serve this beer up to my wife, I know she doesn’t like IPA‘s and she wouldn’t be a fan of this one. But for those on the fence with IPA’s this may be the one for you.
I really like this beer and give it 4 1/2 out of 5 bananas.
