This has been a favorite wine of mine for a while, and I wish I could tell you how I got into it but I can’t recall. Truth is, I likely bought it for my wife, as she is more into sweet wines than the deep reds I usually buy. So does she like this, well she isn’t much for whites but I have seemed to grab a bottle of this and have it on steady rotation for the past few months. I can only find it at The Andersons Market and no where else, but I’m always on the look out.
So what makes this wine so good, well it is sweet and deliciously cheap, er um delicious. I am unsure what makes a wine Privatkellerei or ‘private cellar’ but this wine should not be kept in secret. I’ve even come to buying this wine as a gift for friends.
The character of this wine is light with a citrus lemon crispness to it. It doesn’t taste syrupy like many cheap wines do, no instead it has great character. I don’t mean light in reference to the sweet taste but that it is of quality make and their are subtle fruity complexities to it. However, it is very sweet and would pair well with seafood like buttered and peppered scallops or a fruity almond salad. As for me, I like it as is and more often than not enjoy it without any food pairing. It has a nice mineralness to it that goes over well in the aftertaste.
I give this wonderful wine a 5 out of 5 bananas. I may not be a wine expert but I know what I like and this is it, even as fan of red wines this one has given me a sweet-tooth only it can slay. Tack on the low price tag and it surely places itself in my book as a win-win. The only true problem is when I go to visit Germany will this be on my mind with all those lovely German beers?
