New Brew Tuesday: Flying Dog – K-9 Cruiser Winter Ale

Type: AleWinter Warmer/ Winter Ale
Name: Flying DogK-9 Cruiser Winter Ale
Price: $1.49
Made: Frederick, MD
Alc/Vol: 7.4%

“If only we could take our dogs skiing they could chase off snowplowing tourists, stick their heads out the gondola window, and use the snow as their own artistic canvas. But on those days when your pooch can’t be there, enjoy one of these dark, sweet, malty ales in his honor.”

This beer has a nice amber color, and is my second time going up against these winter warmer ales. Last week’s Hoppin Frog had too much of a spiced kick to it, and oddly enough this one didn’t have much.

Thanksgiving in Brazil: I think I’m Going to be Homesick

As an American abroad you miss out on holidays that are traditionally celebrated with your families, which can make even the most savvy traveler a little homesick. While living in Brazil for 4 months I celebrated Thanksgiving away from my family, which didn’t really bother me until I sat down for my thanksgiving meal, and then things got real depressing.

Certain holidays are purely American, Halloween went by without so much as a boo. Before I knew it Thanksgiving was fast upon me. If I had it my way I wouldn’t of cared or missing the turkey or any other of the Thanksgiving traditions but the American School I was teaching at had a different idea in mind.

Name: Hoppin’ FrogChristmas Ale
Price: $3.49
Made: Akron, OH
Alc/Vol: 8.6%

I decided to get into the Christmas spirit a little early with this one. It is time to start finishing off those pumpkin beers and make way for the Christmas Ales. So what does this beer have to say for itself.
“The essence of Christmas is captured in this very bottle you are holding. Perfectly blended spices compliment Frosted Frog’s rich malt flavors creating the ultimate christmas experience. Celebrate the holidays as you savor this very special seasonal offering.”
I have to be honest here, I really really wanted to like this beer. I know where Akron is, I’ve been there a few times and it’s an Ohio microbrewery. It has all the makings of something I’d like so all they had to do is serve up something tasty. Yet, well….. just keep reading.

Cleveland Rocks: Belly Busters, Beers and Cheers

ClevelandThis past Friday, I headed on over to the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal building so that my friend @BouncyMcTigger could take the US Citizenship test, and while in Cleveland I thought it would be worthwhile to showcase a few favorites of mine to this soon to be citizen. Odd enough none of the citizenship test questions had anything about where to get good food and drinks at in Cleveland… I know weird huh?  I grew up about 20 minutes west of Cleveland so I’m fairly familiar with Cleveland and decided to pick up where the citizenship test lacked…and onward we went with sites, bites and beer (sorry couldn’t think of anything alcohol related that ended in ‘ites’)
