After reading through GotPassport’s post on their purging progress I realized something, I MOVE OUT IN 30 DAYS! By June 7th I need to hand in my keys to the zookeeper, err umm I mean landlord, and have the place shiny and new. Which means cleaning the walls from failed flinging experiments and figuring out where everything goes. Holy orangutan, that is not a lot of time and I haven’t even put away my folded laundry from Monday let alone pack up anything. The only thing I have packed lately is a few pounds on my belly, luckily I can just say I’ve gotten fluffier. To further complicate everything I want to take off on my random motorcycle ride somewhere by the beginning of June, so while I have till the 7th I really want to be out before Memorial Day weekend.
Crap!
Why am I moving, well my job may no longer be there come August and I don’t want to renew my lease just to loose my job and not get free grad school, really why else would a monkey stay in the Midwest – it’s cold and the bananas aren’t fresh. Luckily I have the opportunity to live with a friend, who happens to have everything and then some so in my effort to be more mobile I’m getting rid of my stuff and even some of her’s because well she has a few too many things also. Honestly between the 2 of us we have 3 coffee pots who needs that much coffee?
I have been slightly productive I’ve made a list of things I need to pack on my bike for the trip and scheduled my test to get my license. Although they only do the driving test on Wednesdays – why Wednesday I don’t know but those damn four wheel drivers get to take their test all week including Saturday at some places. I’d start flinging at the DMV, or is it BMV -what’s the difference, but then I’d get assault with a smelly weapon and they probably wouldn’t let me take my test.
The upside of things I have a younger brother Prometheus who is a poor college student unlike his cooler older brother the poor college graduate. :-/ He needs a few things and it just so happens that I have a few things so I am going to hand off things like my couch set, my fold out couch, a kitchen table with bar stools (haha stool get it?), my coffee table and end tables, and other things that I don’t really care if he needs or not like my plates and dishes. Some of my other possessions are going back home since I stole them when I went to college like my bed and bed set while others are going with me, like my hammock, ukulele and home brew kit. That still leaves some big things like a huge TV stand, washer & dryer and a few vacuums that I need to sell or give away.
I’m not sure how this is all going to work out but I’m sure I’ll find a way somehow, although I probably should work on what needs to be sold. Luckily I have boxes to pick up this weekend so that I can get started. I just hope all this moving doesn’t cut into my drinking beer while lounging in hammock time.

Don’t forget to fling this post to others if you like what you see!

Well look on the bright side, you don't have 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and over 2250sq ft and our house is small compared to others. NOT saying it is any less painful.. just be glad (and proud) you haven't gone down the path of accumulating like we have for the past 20 yrs. We are SOO glad we are doing this now.. and not another 20 yrs from now.
Craig's list worked really well for us. It is great way to get things out of your home into someone else's. We've also recycled a ton, donated another ton and freecycling also so we throw away as little as possible.
Bravo for taking the step and having the courage to live with LESS. So much easier and FREER on the mind and the spirit. Keep up the good work.. you'll get it done!
cheers to our favorite 'lil monkey!

Good luck with the “ritual cleanse” as I like to call it. Less is more, for monkeys and humans!

it's cool that you're anticipating and thinking ahead. i think it's a good decision to move out now based on what you've said. good luck on the motorcycle trip. sounds fun! and woohoo for poor college graduates. haha. lets own it!

Sweet, I'm admirable of your ability to get rid of your stuff, seeing as how I have some underlying hoarding issues. Good job!

Thanks I just listed a few things on CraigsList I'm excited, if all else fails I can garage sale it up. The only thing I'm worried about is getting rid of the washer and dryer.

Indeed, it will feel good to get through the cleanse. Especially doing it now will save me the hassle later when I try to get out of the USA.

hehe thanks, yeah I'm not that cubical dweller who was making money at the cost of their soul. I'm just a poor monkey with a teaching degree
I've got high hopes for the trip, but the bike has been acting goofy so hopefully it is up for the trip as much as I am.

I've always been good at flinging old stuff out every year, natural instinct I guess, but this year I accumulated more than I can fling.

Sounds good! I've moved 10 times over the last few years, backwards and forwards to uni etc. which has it's upside that i have at least a bi-yearly clear out of my stuff. The one thing that I seem to hoard at the moment is dresses…. i really don't know how the hell I will part with them!
I may try and pursuade my parents to store all my clothes there, for my eventual return! (or not)

Yeah I have shirts galore that I need to get rid of, I'm just really worried about the big things – mainly my TV stand and Washer/Dryer because I can't store those until I get rid of them.
