What is more southern delight than a cruise on an old boat down the river, kind of huckleberry fin’esque. This boat also happened to dock itself outside my hotel’s window view of the popular Riverwalk in the downtown historic district of Savanna, Georgia. There were various cruise options to select from depending on the day and time, they give Saturaday Luncheon, Murder Afloat, Sunday Brunch, Dinner Entertainment, Moonlight Entertainment and Monday Gospel Dinner cruises. I opted for the Moonlight Entertainment where you can, “Dance the night away or relax under the stars as we cruise the historic Savannah River” on this 1 ½ hour trip. I was expecting a more entertainment than moonlight but this isn’t exactly a party boat cruise so if you are looking to find yourself a sexy cougar or a young clubbing party goer then you are out of luck. Someone should have informed that to the three 20-something dressed to impress women who got on board after me, although I think they crashed the sorority party on the first deck. If you brought that special someone and you are looking for an entertaining yet laid back event then this is right up your alley.
This Moonlight Entertainment tour ran $17.95 a fare ($39.60 for a couple after tax), I thought it was a bit pricey and should have went for the Savannah Haunted Pub Crawl, but drinks weren’t included on the tour so I went on the big boat.
It was cheesy and touristy, and after the boat left the riverwalk area it was dark on all sides including the sky that night. I enjoyed an expensive chilly nap on the Savannah river and that was the extent of my experience on my first and likely last river boat cruise. The DJ played a mixture of radio hits and older soulful music like Tina Turner while couples danced and kids ran around and around the boat either for enjoyment or out of boredom, maybe both.
The only thing that made this trip really memorable was that a young man proposed to his girlfriend, now fiancé, at the end of the tour. He stood atop the third deck and encouraged her to walk down so that he could take a picture of her. He snapped a picture as she heard her name across the speakers, followed by the words “Will you marry me?” He walked down the stairs, got down on one knee only to be caught in her embrace. It was a warm and heartfelt feeling, if only the chilly river air didn’t win out and have me rushing for a strong drink to give me a warm feeling all over that would last.
If slow soulful cruises that will give you a reason to cuddle up next to that special someone is your thing then this is the trip for you, however I think you could get a similar experience by merely sitting on one of the benches and watching the boats go by for free. Plus $40 is a lot of booze to buy, enough to make you feel like you’re on the river.

It is a crying shame to hear stuff like this, when for that much money the boat company could afford to put on a very nice experience.
Haunted tour next time for sure

Yes, agreed. Although it was a learning experience and from what I could tell most of these 'haunted' tours seemed a bit hokey.
