Cleveland's St Patrick's day parade

I know it has been two whole days since that lovely day of green and I needed that time to recuperate from green beer and Jameson whiskey. While some of you woke up wondering what happened, I was checking out the Cleveland parade and took plenty of pictures to ensure I could recall what I was doing. Sure, Cleveland doesn’t dye their river green like Chicago or have every Irish mob movie based in its city like Boston but the ‘luck o’ the Irish’ is strong at least one day a year. Believe it or not Cleveland has quite the experience in running a Saint Patrick’s Day parade, in fact they have been doing it since 1867! That’s well over 100 years of producing quality hangovers, way to go Cleveland.

I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Wait a minute little monkey your math is off, it’s closer to 150 years than simply 100.” If we just totaled up the numbers that would be true but thanks to a little research, yes when it comes to parties I’ll do the research, at Cleveland’s Irish Parade.org I learned they didn’t have the parade for a few years due to war and the Great Depression. Yes unfortunately, during the depression there was no parade – which to me is a perfectly good reason to want to get sloshed on green beer.

The parade itself is an entertaining sight to see, but even if the forecast calls for warm weather you still need to put on your wool sweater. Cleveland, being on the shores of Lake Erie, tends to have a cool breeze blowing through it and add the fact that you are in the shade from the tall buildings – yeah even my furry self was a little chilly.

There are plenty of bars around to refill your glass, but as long as you aren’t drinking out of a can it’s cheaper to just fill up a large cup and take that with you to the parade. You won’t likely get cited as long as you aren’t being obnoxious, which on St. Patrick’s Day you have to be really bad to get singled out of a whole parade full of fools. If you ever get the chance to check out this parade I highly recommend it, but be smart and get a hotel room somewhere near because you are not going to want to or even be able to drive home after all is said and done.
